Daniel Is Arrested
The high-ranking officials in the kingdom were jealous of Daniel’s success and his strong faith in God. They tricked King Darius into making a law that prohibited anyone from praying to any god or person other than the king for thirty days. Knowing this, they spied on Daniel and caught him praying to God, just as he always did.
The officials then brought Daniel before the king, insisting that he must be punished by being thrown into a den filled with hungry lions. King Darius greatly respected Daniel and was heartbroken when he realized what had happened. However, because the law of the land could not be changed, he had no choice but to order Daniel’s punishment.
