Refusing the King’s Food
Daniel and his friends were taken to serve in the palace of the king of Babylon. As part of their training, they were given the same rich foods and wine that the king himself ate. However, Daniel and his friends did not want to eat this food because they believed it would make them unclean according to their faith. Instead, they asked for simple food—just vegetables and water.
The official in charge of them was worried about this request. He feared that if Daniel and his friends looked weaker than the others, the king would be angry and might punish him. However, Daniel remained firm in his decision, choosing to honor God rather than conform to the king’s ways.
