The King’s Dream
King Nebuchadnezzar wakes up suddenly in the middle of the night, deeply troubled by a mysterious and unsettling dream. Unable to shake the feeling that it holds great significance, he becomes anxious and desperate for answers. Determined to understand its meaning, he summons all the wise men of his kingdom—magicians, astrologers, and scholars—expecting them not only to interpret the dream but also to tell him what he dreamt in the first place.
He declares to them:
“I have had a dream that troubles me, and I want to know what it means.”
(Daniel 2:3, The Bible)
The king’s demand is extraordinary. Usually, a person would describe their dream and ask for an interpretation, but Nebuchadnezzar insists that his advisors first reveal the dream itself before explaining its meaning. This impossible challenge sets the stage for a dramatic test of wisdom, power, and divine revelation.
