Chapter 10
From that day on, things started to change. Logan didn’t just “see” me; he made sure everyone else did too.
He’d walk down the halls with me by his side, introducing me to his friends, cracking jokes that made me laugh for real. I could feel eyes on me—some surprised, some curious—but for once, I wasn’t fading into the background.
Jess was thrilled. “Look at you, Alicia! The new queen of the school,” she teased, nudging me as we sat in the cafeteria.
I smiled but felt nervous. Being seen like this was exciting but also terrifying. What if the attention was just another spotlight that would burn me?
Logan seemed to notice. One afternoon after class, he caught me before I could disappear into the crowd.
“Hey,” he said softly, “you don’t have to play the part I’m making you play. Just be you. That’s enough.”
It was the first time someone said that to me, truly meant it.
I wanted to believe him.
But the truth was, being noticed wasn’t always easy. Whispers followed us. Some kids weren’t happy about Logan’s sudden interest in the “quiet girl.” There were moments I wanted to retreat back into my safe, invisible world.
But every time I felt that pull, Logan was there—reminding me that I was more than I thought I was.
And maybe, just maybe, I was starting to believe it too.
