Madisyn stood frozen, her heart pounding as the words of the woman she had called “Mom” for years cut through her like a knife. “Madisyn, we’ve raised you all these years, never imagining you could be so cruel. You need to leave this house immediately,” Phyllis Chapman declared, her voice cold and sharp, her elegant appearance belying the harshness of her tone.

Madisyn’s eyes darted to Jenna, the girl sitting on the sofa, clutching her bandaged knees. Jenna’s tearful eyes met hers, and she whimpered, “Mom, it was an accident. I lost my balance and fell down the stairs. Madisyn didn’t push me.”

But no one believed her. Just half an hour ago, Jenna had tumbled down the staircase, and Madisyn had been the only one upstairs at the time. The Chapmans were convinced Madisyn had done it. Their once-warm gazes now burned with disgust and anger.

Madisyn’s mind raced. Just a week ago, they had promised to treat her as their own, even after discovering she wasn’t their biological daughter. But behind closed doors, everything had changed. The truth had come out when Jeffry Chapman, her supposed father, needed a blood transfusion after an accident. The tests revealed Madisyn wasn’t his child. The Chapmans had tracked down their real daughter, Jenna, and brought her home. To save face, they had publicly vowed to keep Madisyn, but privately, they planned to send her away once the spotlight faded.

Since Jenna’s arrival, Madisyn’s life had become a nightmare. She was moved from her room to a storage space, treated like a servant, and blamed for Jenna’s past hardships. Jenna had schemed against her repeatedly, but her parents turned a blind eye, their disdain for Madisyn growing with each passing day.

Now, as Madisyn stood in the living room, she felt a surge of defiance. She looked Jenna in the eye and said firmly, “I’ll leave, but not before setting the record straight. I won’t take the blame for your lies anymore, Jenna.”

Jenna’s face faltered for a moment, but she quickly recovered, her voice dripping with fake innocence. “Madisyn, I don’t know what you’re talking about. Ever since I came home, I’ve felt your resentment. But my legs… how could you do this to me? Dancing is my passion. If I’d known you wanted that competition spot so badly, I wouldn’t have taken it.”

Phyllis’s eyes hardened as she turned to Madisyn. “Jenna is talented in ways you could never be. That competition spot was rightfully hers. And you—” she spat, “pack your things and get out of this house!”

Jeffry finally spoke, his voice heavy with disappointment. “Madisyn, we agreed to keep you until the public attention died down, but your jealousy towards Jenna has gone too far. It’s time for you to return to your real family.”

Jenna’s eyes gleamed with triumph as Madisyn turned and walked upstairs to gather her belongings. Jenna’s anxiety spiked. What if Madisyn tried to take something valuable? Everything in this house belonged to her now.

When Madisyn returned, she carried only a small black bag. Phyllis eyed it suspiciously. “What’s in there? Show me,” she demanded.

Jeffry stopped her. “Let her be.” He assumed it was just the bank card he’d given her, with a mere hundred thousand dollars left.

Madisyn placed the bag on the table, her expression calm. “Go ahead. Inspect it.”

Phyllis unzipped the bag and found a notebook, a few seeds, and a small stack of cash. Embarrassed, she straightened up. “I’ll have the driver take you to your new home,” she said curtly.

Jeffry handed Madisyn a card. “When you get there, listen to your parents. They’re simple farmers, but they’re good people. Help them.”

Madisyn pushed the card back. “Everyone has their own path,” she said quietly. Then she turned to Jenna. “Before I go, let’s clear something up. How did you really fall down the stairs? This is your last chance to tell the truth.”

Jenna’s face flushed with anger. “Are you saying I threw myself down? My legs are my life! Why would I risk injuring them?” She burst into tears, collapsing into Phyllis’s arms.

Just then, a vase flew across the room, shattering near Jenna. Startled, she leaped to her feet. The room fell silent as everyone stared at her. Jenna, who had claimed she couldn’t stand because of her injuries, was now on her feet, unharmed.

Madisyn’s lips curved into a faint smile as she turned and walked out the door, leaving the Chapmans in stunned silence.
