Healing the Water of Jericho

The people of Jericho were deeply troubled. Their city was in an ideal location—well-placed and full of potential—but they faced a serious problem. The water supply was tainted, making it unsafe to drink and harmful to the land. Because of this, crops wouldn’t grow properly, and the people struggled to sustain their livelihoods. Desperate for help, they turned to the prophet Elisha, hoping he could do something to change their fate.
Elisha listened carefully and then made a simple but unusual request. He asked them to bring him a new bowl filled with salt. Though they may not have understood why, they obeyed. With the bowl in hand, Elisha walked to the city’s main spring—the very source of their water supply.
Standing before the spring, he took the salt and cast it into the water. As he did, he spoke with divine authority, declaring, “Thus says the Lord: I have healed this water. From now on, there will be no more death or harm caused by it.”
In that moment, something incredible happened. The polluted water became pure, its bitterness washed away. A shimmering ripple spread across the surface, signaling the transformation taking place. The once-barren land began to thrive, and the people of Jericho could finally see hope returning to their city.
This miraculous event was not due to the salt itself but to the power of God working through His prophet. By trusting in Him, the people of Jericho witnessed firsthand how faith and obedience could bring restoration and life.

Bible Verse:
“And he went out to the spring of water and threw salt in it and said, ‘Thus says the Lord: I have healed this water; from now on neither death nor miscarriage shall come from it.’” — 2 Kings 2:21
