The Question

As Abraham and his son Isaac walk together toward the mountain where they will offer a sacrifice to God, Isaac begins to notice something unusual. He sees that they have everything needed for the offering—the wood for the fire and the means to start it—but there is no lamb. This seems strange to him because, in a typical sacrifice, an animal would be provided in advance. With curiosity and perhaps some concern, Isaac turns to his father and asks, “Where is the lamb for the burnt offering?” His question reveals his trust in his father while also expressing his confusion about their preparations.

Bible Verse: Genesis 22:7 – “The fire and wood are here,” Isaac said, “but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?”
