Jonah Sleeps During the Storm

As the fierce storm raged around the ship, tossing it violently upon the waves, the sailors were gripped with fear. The winds howled, the rain poured down in sheets, and the sea threatened to swallow them whole. In the midst of this chaos, Jonah, a prophet who had been running from God’s command, was sound asleep below deck, completely unaware of the danger.
The ship’s captain, desperate to save his crew, searched for answers. When he found Jonah sleeping, he was shocked and furious. He shook him awake and shouted,
“How can you sleep at a time like this? Get up and pray to your God! Maybe He will take notice of us and spare our lives!” (Jonah 1:6)
Jonah immediately understood what was happening. He knew that the storm was no accident—it had come because of him. He had disobeyed God by trying to escape His call, and now, the consequences were upon him and everyone on the ship.
