After three long days and nights inside the belly of the great fish, Jonah had time to reflect on his actions and pray earnestly to God. He had tried to run away from God’s command, but now he realized there was no escaping His will.

Then, God, in His mercy, commanded the fish to release Jonah. Obeying God’s instruction, the fish swam toward the shore and, with a mighty heave, spit Jonah out onto dry land. Drenched and exhausted, Jonah lay on the shore, overwhelmed by what had just happened. He was shaken but grateful to be alive. At that moment, he knew that God had given him another chance to do what he had been asked—to go to the city of Nineveh and deliver God’s message.

As the Bible says:
“And the Lord spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.” (Jonah 2:10)
