The Fire Falls from the Sky

As Lot’s family flees the city, something unimaginable happens. From the sky above, fire and burning sulfur start to fall, hitting the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. The entire area is soon engulfed in flames, and the air is filled with the desperate screams of the people who are caught in the destruction.

Genesis 19:24 describes it this way: “Then the Lord rained down burning sulfur on Sodom and Gomorrah—from the Lord out of the heavens.” This dramatic event marks the complete devastation of these two cities, which had become known for their wickedness. The fire and sulfur were a powerful, divine judgment, meant to wipe out the cities entirely for their sins.
