King Solomon, one of the most famous figures in the Bible, is believed to have written several important books in the Old Testament. These include Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and the Song of Songs (also known as the Song of Solomon). Each of these books offers something unique. Proverbs is filled with wise sayings and practical advice for everyday life—things like how to treat others, the value of hard work, and the importance of self-control. Ecclesiastes, on the other hand, is more reflective and philosophical. In it, Solomon explores the deeper questions of life, such as: What is the purpose of our existence? Why do people chase after wealth or success, and do those things really satisfy in the end?

One of the most powerful lines from Ecclesiastes sums up Solomon’s conclusion after all his searching: “Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man” (Ecclesiastes 12:13). In other words, after experiencing great wealth, wisdom, and power, Solomon realized that what truly matters is having a relationship with God and living according to His ways.

His writings give us a glimpse into the heart of a man who had everything the world could offer—riches, fame, wisdom, and pleasure—but still felt that something was missing. Through his words, we are reminded that true fulfillment comes not from what we have, but from knowing and honoring God.
