Rebekah’s Plan

Rebekah overheard a conversation between Isaac and Esau, where Isaac planned to bless Esau before he died. Wanting her younger son Jacob to receive the blessing instead, she quickly came up with a plan. She instructed Jacob to disguise himself as Esau by wearing his brother’s clothes and covering his hands and neck with goat skins so he would feel hairy like Esau. Then, she prepared a meal for Jacob to take to Isaac, tricking the nearly blind Isaac into giving Jacob the blessing meant for Esau.

This event is recorded in Genesis 27:5-17 (NIV):
“Now Rebekah was listening as Isaac spoke to his son Esau. When Esau left for the open country to hunt game and bring it back, Rebekah said to her son Jacob, ‘Look, I overheard your father say to your brother Esau, “Bring me some game and prepare me some tasty food to eat, so that I may give you my blessing in the presence of the Lord before I die.” Now, my son, listen carefully and do what I tell you…'”
