The Burning Bush

Many years passed, and Moses settled into a quiet life as a shepherd, tending the flock of his father-in-law, Jethro. He often led the sheep through the wilderness in search of fresh pasture, and one day, his journey brought him to Mount Horeb, also known as the mountain of God.

As he guided the sheep across the rocky terrain, something unusual caught his eye—a bush engulfed in flames. But something about it was strange. Though the fire blazed brightly, the bush itself was not consumed. It did not turn to ash or wither away.

Curious and bewildered, Moses took a step closer, wanting to understand this mysterious sight. Just then, a voice called out from the heart of the burning bush:

“Moses, Moses!”

The voice startled him. His heart pounded as he realized this was no ordinary fire—this was something divine. Trembling, he answered, “Here I am.”

Then the voice spoke again:

“Do not come any closer,” said God. “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.”

Moses, overwhelmed with awe, obeyed.

God then revealed why He had called out to Moses. He had seen the terrible suffering of His people, the Israelites, who were enslaved and mistreated in Egypt. He had heard their cries for help, and now, He had chosen Moses for an incredible mission—to go to Egypt and lead His people to freedom.
