A Mother’s Courage

A Mother’s Courage

In a small, humble home in Egypt, a Hebrew woman named Jochebed cradled her newborn son in her arms, his tiny fingers grasping at her clothes. He was beautiful, perfect, and precious. But danger loomed over them. The Pharaoh had ordered that all Hebrew baby boys be killed, and for three long months, Jochebed had kept her son hidden, shielding him from the soldiers who might come searching. She knew, however, that she couldn’t keep him safe forever.

Tears welled in her eyes as she held him close, whispering softly, “God will protect you, my son.” Her heart ached, but she had faith. She had to let him go, trusting that God had a plan.

Determined to give him a chance at life, she set to work weaving a small basket from sturdy reeds, carefully sealing the cracks with tar to make sure it would float. When the basket was ready, she gently placed her sleeping baby inside, tucking a soft cloth around him. Her daughter, Miriam, stood nearby, watching with wide, anxious eyes.

With a deep, shaky breath, Jochebed carried the basket to the banks of the Nile River. The water stretched before her, calm yet unpredictable. Kneeling down, she whispered one last prayer and set the basket afloat, watching as the current gently carried her son away.

Miriam, her heart pounding, hurried along the riverbank, determined to keep watch over her baby brother. She didn’t know what would happen, but she believed that somehow, God would take care of him.
