God’s Punishment for Israel’s Doubt

Because the Israelites doubted God’s promise and lacked faith in Him, He decreed that the entire generation who had left Egypt—except for Joshua and Caleb—would be denied entry into the Promised Land. As a consequence of their unbelief, they were condemned to wander in the wilderness for 40 years until that entire generation had passed away. Only Joshua and Caleb, who had remained faithful and trusted in God’s plan, would be allowed to enter and settle in the land that God had promised to His people.
