The First Bricks (Genesis 11:3)

Unlike other cities that built their structures using stone, the people of this city chose to make bricks instead. Since natural stone was not readily available, they had to create their own building materials. They said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” (Genesis 11:3) This process required time and effort, as they had to mold clay into bricks and then bake them until they became strong and durable. Though the work was slow, it was steady. Day by day, they carefully stacked the freshly made bricks on top of the ones laid before, and little by little, their tower began to rise toward the sky.
