The Heavenly Discussion

One day, in the heavenly realms, the angels gathered before God to present themselves, and among them was Satan. As they stood before Him, God spoke highly of Job, a man of great integrity and faith. He described Job as righteous, faithful, and devoted, a man who shunned evil and lived a life pleasing to God.

However, Satan was skeptical. He challenged God’s praise, arguing that Job’s faithfulness was not genuine but rather a result of the many blessings and protections God had given him. According to Satan, Job was only loyal because his life was prosperous and free from hardship. If those blessings were taken away, Satan claimed, Job would no longer remain faithful.

Satan then posed a direct challenge, saying:

“Does Job fear God for nothing? Have You not made a hedge around him, his household, and everything he has?” (Job 1:9-10)

In other words, Satan was implying that Job’s devotion was not out of true love for God but because of the rewards he received. This moment set the stage for the trials that would soon come upon Job, testing whether his faith was truly unconditional.
